What winning the 2026 Nordic Fintech Growth Award means for wamo
Last week in Copenhagen, wamo won the Growth category at the Nordic Fintech Awards.
It is an important recognition for our whole team. The award celebrates customer growth, investment, international expansion and operational scale. We have worked hard on all four, but I think the win also recognised something bigger: our ambition.
wamo is not (just) building a Nordic financial product for Nordic businesses. We are building one intelligent financial operating system for Europe's next generation of builders.
The Nordics are a foundation, not a boundary
One message I took from Nordic Fintech Week was that the Nordic ecosystem has reached an interesting point.
The region has given fintech a powerful blueprint: trust, safety, strong digital infrastructure and a deliberate approach to building. As Nordea reflected during the conference, the next challenge is turning those strengths into companies that can scale internationally.
The Nordics should be our foundation, not our boundary.
Europe is not one uniform market. Each country has its own financial infrastructure, payment habits, regulations and expectations. Businesses may need the same fundamental tools, but they do not operate in the same way.
That is why hyperlocalisation matters to us. It is not simply translating an app. It means understanding how businesses open accounts, get paid, move money, manage suppliers and find support in each market. It means one strong platform, shaped around local reality.
Intelligence needs context
Another major theme was the shift from AI that advises to AI that can meaningfully support decisions. The conference programme explored agentic finance, intelligent financial control layers and accounts that coordinate money across products and institutions.
For small businesses, this should not mean another chatbot or another dashboard.
When accounts, payment acceptance, receivables, supplier bills, spending, transfers and financing sit together, they create one live financial picture. Oliva can use that context to recommend what to pay, what to chase and where a business can operate more efficiently. Real human support remains close by when it is needed.
The intelligence comes from the system working as a whole. Every product adds context and makes the financial picture more useful.
Trust is what makes that intelligence valuable. The winners in AI will not simply be those who move fastest. They will be the companies that preserve security, accountability and customer confidence while they do it. That balance between technology and trust is deeply Nordic, and increasingly important everywhere.
What growth means for wamo
For wamo, growth is not only about serving more businesses or entering more countries. It is about becoming more useful to every customer.
It means bringing more of a business's financial life into one connected system. It means listening locally without losing the strength of a shared European platform. It means building technology that helps business owners make better decisions, not simply giving them more tools to manage.
Our next phase of growth rests on those two ideas: hyperlocalisation and connected intelligence.
Personally, Nordic Fintech Week was a brilliant experience. I met a diverse and passionate collection of founders, investors, financial institutions and fintech leaders from across the Nordics and well beyond them.
The conversations at TAP1, the gala, Copenhagen itself and even the NFW morning run made the week feel serious, open and genuinely fun.
Thank you to the Nordic Fintech Week team, the jury, our customers and everyone at wamo who made this recognition possible.
We look forward to returning next year, reporting on our progress and enjoying the fun all over again.
wamo builds one intelligent financial operating system for Europe's small businesses, combining accounts, payments, cards and AI-powered tools shaped around how each market actually works.
