The new wamo: designed to understand your business

By Koray Gökçe

A refreshed design system, a broader view of your business's money, and Oliva, wamo's new AI assistant for small businesses.

We began this work by calling it a facelift. But as the product evolved, it became clear that we were changing much more than how wamo looks. We were rethinking how a small business should experience its financial world: what should be visible, what should be effortless, and what the product should begin to understand on its behalf.

The new wamo is built on a completely refreshed design system, with new components, a new visual language, glass effects and redesigned 3D icons. But design, for us, is never decoration. It is about making complexity disappear.

Design, for us, is never decoration. It is about making complexity disappear.

The Dashboard now brings the things a business owner needs closer together. Your IBAN is visible beneath your balance, invoices begin to sit naturally alongside the rest of your financial activity, and Stories make it easier to discover products, campaigns and ways to use wamo without searching through menus. Accounts Payable is also becoming part of that everyday experience, so upcoming invoices and payment activity start to feel like part of the financial picture rather than a separate administrative task.

Accounts payable, in one sentence

A question about invoices is answered where it is asked: amounts, due dates and what is already overdue, without opening a separate payables screen.

We have also changed the way we think about Open Banking. A business owner does not really care which institution holds each euro; what matters is knowing the position of the business as a whole. With Total Wealth, external bank accounts and balances can sit alongside wamo accounts, giving a more complete view of money and transactions in one place. The intent is simple: less switching between providers, fewer blind spots, and a clearer sense of the financial position of the company at any moment.

The same principle runs through POS and Cards. POS becomes easier to understand across merchants, stores and devices, with clearer transaction states, a monthly allowance tracker and better visibility into performance, including payout trends. Cards become more visible and more useful, with featured card designs brought forward and campaign participation easier to follow from within the product.

Taken together, these changes make the app more useful before we even talk about AI. The new Story Center helps customers discover how to use the product. Total Wealth gives a broader picture across accounts. POS becomes more operationally useful. Cards become easier to manage. Accounts Payable starts to bring invoices into the same environment as cash, payments and transactions. All of it is designed around one idea: the product should ask less of the customer, while understanding more about the business.

And that leads to Oliva.

Meet Oliva

Oliva is wamo's AI assistant for small businesses. The name comes from the olive tree, a symbol deeply connected with trade, endurance and prosperity across Southern Europe. For ancient travellers, seeing olive trees could signal that they were arriving in a world of settlement and commerce. We liked the idea of Oliva carrying that same sense of arrival: familiar, dependable and quietly useful.

Oliva is not designed to impress you with AI. It's designed to help you understand your business.

Today, Oliva can help with balances, cards, POS, account questions, individual transactions, expenses, revenue and information about wamo itself. It can help a customer understand a single transaction, look at spending, interpret how revenue is developing, or answer a question about the account without forcing the customer to work out where that information lives in the app. Behind that simple experience, specialised capabilities work together to connect a question with the right part of a customer's financial world. The complexity remains behind the interface; the customer simply asks.

This changes something fundamental. Financial apps have traditionally been built around navigation: find the menu, find the product, find the transaction, then work out what it means. With Oliva, the starting point can increasingly become intent. You can ask why spending changed, what happened to a transaction, how the business is performing, or what needs your attention.

An answer you can read at a glance

The long-term ambition is to move from information towards useful, actionable insight. Our roadmap already points towards a more agentic interface, connecting areas such as payables, Total Wealth, cash flow and, eventually, financing needs into a more coherent journey. In time, the product should not only help explain what happened, but help surface what may need attention next: whether that is a bill to pay, a change in cash flow or a financing need emerging ahead.

That ambition also comes with responsibility. Customers must always know they are interacting with AI, there must always be a clear path to a human, and Oliva is not intended to provide financial, tax or legal advice. Trust is not an additional feature of financial AI; it is the foundation.

The most interesting thing about this release is not that the app looks new, or even that it now includes AI. It is that wamo is starting to become a different kind of product: less a collection of financial tools, and more a single place that understands the financial life of a small business.

That is the direction we are building towards, a product that becomes simpler as the technology behind it becomes more capable.

Oliva is currently in beta. Oliva can make mistakes, please verify important information. Oliva does not provide financial, tax or legal advice, and a route to a human team is always available. Screens shown are product designs and contain sample data.
